Belgica stopped Svitolina`s sting
Belgian Elizabeth Mertens played a near-wrong match and took away Elina Svitolina with 6:4, 6:0 to qualify for the Australian Open semi-finals. The Ukrainian was in a series of nine consecutive games, but it was totally outplayed by the 37th in the world, which finished the game for 73 minutes. Merttens made 16 winnings in the first set with 5:2. There was a rebound from her rival, which returned one break and cut to 5:4, but Elizabeth managed to close the set. In the second part she left no chance for the Ukrainian. 23-year-old Svitolina was one of the favorites for the title before the start of the tournament analyzed by football record tips but has not yet reached the semi-final of a Grand Slam tournament.
Merttens became the first Belgian midfielder in Melbourne since 2012 when Kim Clijsters made it. Elizabeth trains at Clijsters Academy and gets help from her. After the match, she did not miss to thank her:`I walk your steps, do not stress too much of my games. `
